The beach town of José Ignacio in Uruguay has a relaxed feel, excellent surfing, and a dedicated glamorous following. It’s also the location of the luxury resort of Bahia Vik on Mansa Beach, where magical sunsets are guaranteed. This modernist property offers 11 art-filled bungalows and 10 suites in a light-filled main building, all low-level structures that fit perfectly into the natural surroundings, and designed by owners Alex and Carrie Vik (the couple behind Estancia Vik José Ignancio and Playa Vik José Ignacio) alongside Uruguayan architect Marcelo Daglio.
The property recently debuted a second restaurant, El Zodiaco, serving contemporary dishes using local ingredients, and a boutique called Chiringuito, offering merino wool products, including ponchos and throws, leather goods, authentic Gaucho boots, and traditional south American dresses. I’m particularly interested in their handmade sandals—a collaboration between Carrie Vik and Uruguayan artisans.
Pack for the beach: The AERIN Leather & Straw Shopper is ideal for a beach vacation. I’d also pack my comfortable suede Slide Sandal with Top Loop, and my Cashmere Silk Fringed Scarf, a versatile accessory that can be draped over a swimsuit daytime or a dress at night.
