As a teenager living in Austria, I always remember the first time I walked into Demel, Vienna’s legendary confectioner. I was charmed by the historic café, with its smoked glass mirrors etched with flowers, and the 19th century wooden cases filled with chocolates, decorative cakes, and candy packaged in sweet tins and small wooden boxes. Demel embodies Viennese heritage and tradition and I make a point of visiting every so often, but in between it’s possible to order online. During the holidays, they do the most delightful Christmas cookies. I set them out on our gilded Marnay Rectangular Dish alongside a Footed Deco Bowl of Demel chocolates (they tend to disappear as quickly as they arrive).
