CARTIER-BRESSON

CARTIER-BRESSON

I find the versatility of the legendary photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson so impressive; he captured some of the most important moments of the 20th century including Gandhi’s funeral, the liberation of Paris in 1944, and two World Wars. However, he also turned his camera on everyday moments—a woman’s legs on a sofa, a couple embracing on a street corner, a crowd at the racetrack—through his lens the ordinary became so much more. With over 350 images from his long career, the sweeping retrospective at the Pompidou celebrates all aspects of this pioneer in photojournalism’s work.

Henri Cartier-Bresson Retrospective, The Centre Pompidou, Paris; through June 9, 2014.
