On a recent trip to Miami I was reminded just how fun this city can be. If you’re planning a weekend escape this winter, I think the following places are well worth visiting.
Stay: Faena Hotel Miami Beach is housed in a beautifully restored 1948 property overlooking the beach. The interiors—including 169 lavish guest rooms in red and teal—were designed by director Baz Luhrmann and his set designer/costumer wife, Catherine Martin. Art is a major attraction at the Faena, including eight Juan Gatti murals in the stunning gold lobby, and Damien Hirst’s Gone But Not Forgotten (2014), a gilded 10-foot-tall woolly mammoth skeleton on show in the hotel’s garden.
Eat: I always eat at Casa Tua in South Beach when I visit Miami. It’s long been a favorite of mine, with an excellent Italian menu and beautiful surroundings. When they light the tree lanterns at night, it becomes all the more magical. I also try to eat in at least one restaurant I’ve not tried before when I’m there; Alter, Bradley Kilgore’s seasonal American restaurant in Wynwood is on my list.
Drink: The glamorous 1940s-style supper club, El Tucán, serves up excellent cocktails (courtesy of Broken Shaker’s Bar Lab), Latin American-inspired tapas, and an array of musical entertainment, including a resident 11-piece Latin orchestra.
Shop: The Webster offers a perfectly curated selection of labels picked by its ever-stylish founder, Laure Hériard Dubreuil. Ideal for timeless pieces that never go out of fashion.
See: Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAAM), houses a collection of international 20th and 21st century art by the likes of Gerhard Richter, Simon Vega, and Nancy Spero, as well as visiting exhibitions. The exterior is equally impressive—Herzog & de Meuron created a stunning building that makes the most of its natural surroundings overlooking the Biscayne Bay, including a series of outdoor spaces with an overhanging canopy adorned with lush tropical vegetation.
What to pack: I always take a scarf when I travel, even on short flights. The AERIN Centrino Printed Fringed Scarf is beautifully soft. The Suede Oversized Weekender is a stylish and practical option for a few days away. A versatile shoe is also essential—my Embroidered Pointed Ballet Flat is comfortable and stylish. The AERIN Ikat Beauty Bag in sunny yellow holds all the products you need for a weekend break, including my new Tangier Vanille fragrance, also available in a rollerball that’s perfect for travel.
