I’ve added a beautiful new travel book to my collection of coffee table favorites. Photographer and travel writer Herbert Ypma’s Nomad Deluxe (published by Assouline) is full of images and stories of far away places. From the Aeolian Islands to the Atacama Desert, Ypma has been traveling the globe since the age of three. “All the pictures of me when I was little were in pajamas around an open fire,” he says, reminiscing over those early days globe-trotting with his geologist father. Back then, summers were spent in Mexico or Africa or the mountains of Colorado, living between tents and caravans while other children were at summer camp. It was a rich and adventurous upbringing that planted the seed of Ypma’s nomadic lifestyle and laid the foundation for this epic book. My favorite anecdote is a simple one on the very first page—thinking of his own children, Ypma declares the best places are those that make them forget they own an iPad.
Book End Style: I love piling photography books on a table or grouping my favorites on a shelf with a beautiful book end. The AERIN Home Collection includes the polished brass Archer Bookends, inspired by Art Deco lines, the distinctive black and white Milo Marble Bookends, and the sparkling Gilded Crystal Bookends.
