With spring break on the horizon, I’ve started looking at beach getaways that work for everyone in the family. A new property that checks all the boxes is the Amanera in the Dominican Republic. It’s nestled on a clifftop overlooking the ocean and the mile-long Playa Grande’s golden sands—there are plenty of watersports to keep active types occupied. It’s also surrounded by jungle (expeditions led by naturalists can be arranged), the resort’s golf course, and beautiful gardens. There are 25 casitas—13 have private pools—in Indonesian teak with floor-to-ceiling windows. Biodiverse rooftops blend with the surrounding landscape, while the interiors continue the natural, local feel with indigenous handmade Aguayo tiles. A central building, the Casa Grande, contains a bar, library, and restaurant. I also love that the spa offers treatments created from locally grown plants and herbs.
