The surrounding natural beauty is reason enough to stay at Uxua Casa Hotel & Spa in the village of Trancoso, Brazil. Add to that its commitment to sustainability and you have the perfect eco property to highlight for World Earth Day this weekend.
Uxua, meaning “wonderful” in the language of Pataxó Indians, has 11 individually designed, luxurious villas furnished with décor made by local craftsmen—even the showerheads are created from organic eucalyptus wood. Its location, in a fruit and flower-filled garden on a hilltop, offers lovely views to the Atlantic and the verdant rainforest. A short walk downhill through mangroves leads to an idyllic white sand beach. The blue-green swimming pool—lined with 40,000 aventurine quartz crystals believed to have healing properties—is mesmerizing, while three spa treatment rooms provide handmade organic treatments with a signature ingredient made from native almescar trees.
The man behind the property is former Diesel Creative Director Wilbert Das, who is fully committed to preserving the environment and supporting the local community (Uxua finances the Trancoso Fisherman’s Association, which uses traditional practices and supplies the freshest of seafood to the hotel’s restaurant). Wilbert’s commitment is evident throughout the hotel; from the knowledgeable local staff he employs right down to the hotel stationary, which is handmade locally.
